Laurie Juspeczyk's story is defined by her relationships and the secrets that shape them. At 16, she became involved with the thirty-something Doctor Manhattan, a relationship her mother disapproved of, likening it to "sleeping with an H-bomb." After nearly 20 years living with Manhattan, their relationship grew strained due to his growing disconnection with humanity, and she left him to move in with Dan Dreiberg. During a flight in Dreiberg's airship Archie, they rescued inhabitants from a burning building. Later, Doctor Manhattan brought Laurie to Mars, where she attempted to convince him to save humanity from nuclear war. During their conversation, she realized her real father was the Comedian. Moved by the sheer unlikelihood of two people as different as Sally Jupiter and the Comedian producing a child—and that child being Laurie—Doctor Manhattan realized the miracle of human life and agreed to save the planet. They returned to Earth to find half of New York City destroyed by Ozymandias' creature. At Ozymandias' Antarctic lair, Laurie tried to shoot him but was thwarted when he caught the bullet. After realizing his plan had averted nuclear war, the heroes (except Rorschach) decided to keep the plan secret for the greater good. Shortly after, Laurie and Dan adopted new identities as Sam and Sandra Hollis, sporting blond hair. They visited Sally in her retirement home, where Laurie told her mother she had realized the truth about her father. Laurie forgave her, accepting the situation was too complicated. As they left, Laurie expressed a wish for a better superhero identity: leather for protection, a mask, and a firearm—paralleling her father's later costume. In the 2018 miniseries *Doomsday Clock*, seven years after *Watchmen*, Sam and Sandra Hollis adopt a boy named Clark, who is actually Superman, not a child raised by Doctor Manhattan.
